Roswell & UFO's

Today we drove from Carlsbad to Roswell New Mexico. We spent a couple of hours in the UFO Museum. It was actually pretty cool...we weren't sure what to expect, but there was lot's of interesting information. Especially interesting were several affidavits from individuals about the incidents that occurred in Roswell in July 1947. In addition, there was also lot's of information about UFO's and citings throughout the world, including documented letters from pilots and others on several citings throughout the last 50+ years.

We then went to Red Lobster for a bite to eat and started visiting with a couple that recently moved to Ruidoso from the Lubbock area. They suggested we take a scenic drive up through Cloudcraft, through the mountains, to an old ghost town. It was too late for the trip today, so we're getting up early tomorrow, grabbing the dogs and heading off for a scenic drive through the mountains of New Mexico. Then Thursday, we're hoping to go to the White Sands National Park and take the dogs romping thru the sand. We can't wait...stay tuned~

Chillin' in Carlsbad

We arrived in Carlsbad, New Mexico Saturday afternoon. We spent the afternoon touring around the area and getting a lay of the land. Then yesterday we went to the Carlsbad Canyons and spent the entire day taking a couple of the tours, the 'Natural" Entrance and the Big Room. We had a great time. Just the scenery on the way to the caverns was unbelievable. We've never seen anything like it. It's a complete desert with the Guadalupe mountains as a backdrop...quite pretty, in an odd way.

We were exhausted today after a combined 5 mile hike in the caverns yesterday, so we took the day off and just chilled hangin' around the 'house'. We're planning on spending the day tomorrow at Sitting Bull Falls and a local wildlife area. We're also going to Roswell this week to attend the UFO museum. Also on the agenda this week is the White Sands dunes of New Mexico. That will pretty much wrap up our activity for our week in Carlsbad.

We're tentatively planning on heading to Santa Fe this Saturday for a week. We have some minor warranty work needed and it's a great location for exploring before we move to Albuquerque the following week for the Good Sam rally. I'm still trying to figure out this 'bloggin' stuff, I've loaded a few pictures from our trip to the caverns, but still having problems with where they're placed on the page. But...at least they're there! Well, we're off to Roswell, New Mexico tomorrow to take in the UFO museum, which is supposed to be the largest UFO museum in the world. So...stay tuned!

Relaxing Week on the Frio River

A Little Bit of Heaven

Our first week of this journey was spent in a wonderfully relaxing location, backed right up to the river. We've spent the last week just chilling and enjoying time around the campfire. Considering the fact that we'd never previously camped in our entire 32 year marriage, or even had a campfire, we're really getting into the groove of this lifestyle! This was one of the most relaxing weeks we've had in a long time and we've had a wonderful time.

Our Chi's, Clyde and Duffy, have really enjoyed the week too. They saw their first armadillo and lot's of squirrels, geese, fish and other birds. During a late night around the campfire this week we heard some scampering around and an armadillo had actually walked right up to the campfire and both of them started howling like crazy ! (I have to admit, I was a tad afraid myself...after all, it was pitch dark!) Mark went fishing several days and caught a few as well. Overall, it's been a wonderful week, just what we needed after months of "To-Do's" and Action Items getting things ready for our new life.

Now that our batteries are charged up, we're ready to kick things into gear and take off on our journey. We leave tomorrow for Snyder, Texas for a short visit with my aunt before moving on to Carlsbad, New Mexico Saturday morning. So, until later....

It's Finally Here!

Well it's finally here. After months and months of planning, we begin our new fulltiming life Saturday morning, 3/14/2009. Our first stop is back to Lafayette, for some minor warranty work on our new Mobile Suites. Afterwards, we be heading towards New Mexico. After a short stop in Hobbs, New Mexico, we'll be going to Carlsbad Caverns, New Mexico for a week or so. We're also planning on attending "The Rally" in Albuquerque in mid-April, followed by a few days in Santa Fe.

Though plans are far from final, after New Mexico we're tentatively planning on moving on into Colorado for a few weeks followed by time in Montana. The wonderful thing about this journey is no alarm clocks or plans set in stone...all plans are as firm as 'jello'! So, until later...~
