We've FINALLY Completed Our Move/And Hopefully Sold the Home!!

When we first returned to the Dallas area last October, our primary goal was to move all of our stuff from my parent's home and place in storage and then attempt to sell my parents home. It's an older home that would need extensive work before it could be placed on the market and purchased via a loan. So our only choice was to sell the property "as is", so to speak.

We've located a buyer and had tentative plans on closing March 1st, however, we've run into additional legal issues. With this being my parent's property, attempting to coordinate everything with my brother's family, the purchaser and the title company, has been challenging for sure. We're not actual sure if this deal will go through or not...guess we'll know for sure in the next week.

Regardless of whether we sell it, at Least we finally have everything out of the old home, either in storage, or marked for a future garage sale or stuff to pitch. We've faced so many challenges to get to this point. Both of our sons and a daughter-in-law were living there in October. We had to assist one in moving to Brenham, Texas with his wife. We helped the other get moved to a North Dallas apartment. Since they couldn't be out of the house until after Christmas, we were basically in a "hurry up and wait" mode for 3 months. Ugh. The only good thing about that was 1) It's so "cheap" staying in this local RV Campground right outside of Forney, that we saved lot's of money and 2) We had ample time to spend with family and Mark had time to help get his folks moved into new assisted living and residential nursing homes.

Whew. It's such a huge relief for us to have this ordeal behind us. We had no idea how many challenges we'd face getting everyone moved out and set up. Now, if only this deal doesn't fall through, we'll be free to move on with our plans. We've not yet decided when we'll be leaving and heading North. Most likely some time in April. We'd like to spend a few weeks in Colorado before arriving in Montana for the summer.

Well, that about wraps up the latest for us. We're keeping our fingers crossed on the sale of the home!!!

WHERE on Earth Have We Been???

Ok ok ok...so no excuses! Bad blogger!! Bad bad blogger! Several folks have asked about the blog, or rather--what happened to your blog? The last time I updated it we were leaving Bar Harbor, Maine. We were in some what of a hurry to get back home to get some personal things taken care of, so didn't seem necessary to update the blog...I mean, we weren't exactly site-seeing, ya know?

Obviously, we've been back home (mostly), for a few months now. We're trying to wrap up a few final things so we can hit the road without some of the worries we encountered in 2009. I'm in the process of selling my parents home and moving what few things we're keeping to storage. With our son Chris and his wife recently moved to Brenham, Texas and our other son Jason moving to an apartment in North Dallas, there's no longer any need to keep the house--well, that and the taxes, insurance, etc. We hope to have everything wrapped up in the next couple of months.

We're tentatively planning on heading to Colorado in early May to spend a month. *We also recently accepted a job workamping at a local campground in St. Mary, Montana. This campground is at the entrance to Glacier National Park and 18 miles from the Canadian border. We're supposed to report the first week of June, but understand the campground may not open until mid/late June, depending on when the snows clear out and roads are opened. We checked the annual summer temps and the average high's are 75 in July/August with low's in the upper 40's...I think that would be great for a change. Personally, I'd never spend another 'summer' in Texas if I could avoid it...I absolutely hate Texas summers and the 100+ degree days we must all endure.

We're excited about spending the summer in Montana. It's a really remote location. We're definitely bringing our passports along and plan on spending some time in Canada (including taking our RV across the border for a few 3 day getaways) on our days off. Here's the link to the campground we'll be working at this summer: www.johnsonsofstmary.com

On the home front, I recently took a bad fall (tripped on an electrical cord in the trailer...Ugh!!) (I think Mark pushed it out just hoping I'd trip over it--and collect all that 'Publisher's Clearhouse money with me out of the picture!!!) Well, it was my sister-in-law's suggestion--but sounds good to me! My knees were pretty banged up but the biggest problem was re-injuring my ribs. I had dislocated the rib cartliage in a fall many years ago and apparently it's much easier to re-injure them once that happens. It took 3 months last time for them to completely heal. At this point, I'd just like to take a deep breath without Pain!!! But, all in all--I'm lucky, it could have been much worse.

We just got back from Louisiana. We went to Lafayette to have some RV warranty work done and then stopped by Brenham, Texas to visit our son and his wife and see their new home. It's really nice and we're proud of them and they're doing well.

Well, though there are many many things we've done in the 4 months since I updated the blog, these are the latest and most recent happenings in our lives. I promise I'll get back on track and update the blog more regularly--at least weekly. So...stay tuned!~
